Hello, Korean Blogosphere!

Howdy — welcome to the hub of Asia. Erm, Sparkling Korea. Umm, Korea, Sparkling? Hmm. The Dynamic and Sparkling Hub of Asia! Well, just call it what you want. The name doesn’t much matter, and it’s all tongue-in-cheek to us.

The important thing is that we wanted to create a place where foreign folks living in Korea can come together and put their heads together on a broad range of topics, especially those having to do with the more colorful aspects of Korean society and culture.

Basically, the opposite of our “hub.” (Graphic: Korea Beat)

Foreigners have reached the million mark, making for 2% of the population here, and the increased diversity of interests among a broader range of people is really showing. In terms of the Korean expat blogosphere, we’ve got people presenting their passion for and knowledge about food, fashion, music, and many other aspects of life here, and coming from a broader range of people, from US service members, women, people from underrepresented ethnicities, various religious perspectives, etc.

We want to make a point to distinguish our little space on the web from some other places in the expat blogosphere by offering a friendly and open-minded atmosphere in which to exchange information and ideas about this increasingly interesting place we all call home.

Many of the folks writing with us might be familiar to you, while some may be new faces. Some of our material will be cross-posted from our own individual blogs, some will be written just for our site, and much of it will be a bit of both. The goal is that of giving you a portal to lots of cool stuff going on here, a broader range of interesting thoughts to chew on, and overall be a site that you feel like you get something positive out of visiting.

We’re just starting out, so please be understanding as we clean up the dust and make occasional last-minute fixes.

And once again — welcome to the HUB!

If we can make it in Seoul*, we can make it anywhere!

    * Or Busan, or Daegu, or anywhere else in the ROK.

Most K-blogs I’ve seen have perfectly cordial comment boards, William — there are just a small number of comment boards that leave SUCH a negative impression that it seems to color some people’s entire experience of the K-blogs.

I thought the extra T’s in ettttiquettte were meant to give extra emphaaaassis, kind of like when somebody says, “oh reeeeeeally?”

Well, I wish you luck then. If you don’t express any political or social opinions things should go well.
