Did you hear Korea has four seasons?
Well it does, and Spring and Autumn are g**d*** beautiful.
Every single reader who lives in a city in Korea needs to get out of the city for one of the next four weekends.
Here are a bunch of recommended places to catch the autumn foliage, and how to get there courtesy of Tourism Korea.
A flickr search for “Korea Autumn foliage”
OK. Enough talk. Get planning those weekend trips!
Both pictures courtesy of my crappy cameraphone, in and around Kyunghee University, from this post written last autumn.

Pretty frickin’ good for a cameraphone, man! Looks almost like it was shot on film on some Lomo camera or a weird wide-angle lens on a Lomo. Looks arty and stuff! I actually like the quirky effect, and it’s really saturated. Sure you’re not inventing a new art form here? “Technological minimalism,” maybe?
Anyway, the shot’s awesome. I like the effect.

I do find it slightly humorous that you suggest everyone get out of the city while posting photos from Seoul — but Kyunghee University is worth a visit even without the changing foliage!
For anyone in Seoul, Uijeongbu has quite a few mountains and associated flora. We share Bukhansan with Seoul and also have Cheonbosan, Dobongsan, Suraksan, and a few others whose names I can’t remember. In particular, if you take Line 1 to Mangwolsa Station and exit from the western side (i.e., the left hand side of the tracks if you’re coming up from Seoul) there’s a map that shows all the hiking trails and associated temples for that half of the mountain range. I believe it’s possible to walk the mountain ridge, although this is not something I’ve tried myself. (I usually leave too late in the day and get side-tracked by temples, waterfalls, and chatting with other hikers.)
Otherwise, Wikipedia also has a “List of Mountains in Korea” page if you want to find somewhere in your own neighborhood. I would love to hear other suggestions if folks have areas they prefer to visit!

Glad you liked the pics, Met… too bad I just replaced that phone (and disconnected it, leaving myself with no way to get the pictures OFF the camera) just last week.
Samedi: mmm. The mountains really are the best place to enjoy the fall.
You want some crappy cameraphone pictures from outside the city?
Take that.

I’ve also always been fond of the mountains north of Seoul, where I used to live: the ones by the north end of subway line 4 (dobongsan, suraksan, bulamsan) are all great, and bulamsan is the perfect size to get a workout, but still have gas in the tank for the rest of the day.
