Bored? Looking for something to do this weekend?
The last three days have seen a swanky haze flop down upon the city of Seoul and not let up, so Seoul Tower and the 63 Building are probably out, and it’s hard to say whether the mountains would provide any good views.
Check out the arts and culture pages on the Friday Korea Times for a good overview of stuff to do.
Spotlight on:
Sarah Chang is playing at the Sejong Center for the Performing Arts on the 18th. (info after the link)
B-Boy vs. Ballerina always sounded fun.
The Grand Mint Factory is an indy rock festival that deserves your attention; however, the silly goobers don’t have any English on their website.
The Seoul International Dance Festival is going on right now.
Next week, I’m going to see Alegria, by Canadian super-awesome circus company Cirque Do Soleil, which I saw in 2007, and was about 2 solid hours of “wow”. I highly, highly recommend it. Here’s the gushing blog post I wrote about it when I saw Quidam. (And video clips from a couple of their shows.)
And once again, here’s the schedule of festivals in and around Seoul, October 15-26.
I’d offer up more info about news around the rest of Korea, but the Official Korea Tourism links that pop up when I google that are pretty useless, unless you want to get in on the “Visit Korea Year 2001” action, or learn about Chusok, “One of the Greatest Korean Holiday” (sic).
On this site and elsewhere, we’ve discussed the way Korea’s attempts to bolster its national image and tourism have been failing. . . having a festival guide and events page that has directions in English, is updated at least weekly, shows up first on google and isn’t in Korean only might help, where people can order tickets with non-Korean payment methods (visa? paypal? without a Korean ID Number? NOT on Internet Explorer with Active-X controllers only) oh ye Korea Tourism Decision Making Muckymucks Who Do Not Read Sites Like This, But Should. Or Who Should Offer Me More Money Than I’m Currently Making To Do The Job For You.
