Here’s something you don’t see happen very often in Korea…the My Thai China owner is forgiving the drunk GI who burned his Itaewon restaurant.
The South Korean movie star whose Itaewon restaurant was damaged in a New Year’s Day fire is asking authorities to pardon the U.S. soldier suspected of setting the fire.
Hong Suk-chon, an actor who co-owns My Thai China with his sister, pulled the soldier from the fire that caused more than $1,000 in damage to his restaurant on Jan. 1.
Still, Hong, 37, said this week he feels the mistakes of a 22-year-old man shouldn’t follow him for the rest of his life.

Dear US military in Korea: I thank you for your service, but please stop making the ajuma think I’m an arsonist, in addition to already being a pedophile, a drug-fiend, having HIV and syphillis, and not being able to use chopsticks or read hangul. Even if I do those last two things right in front of them.

Hold on now, the expat community helps our reputation out quite a bit, so we’re just returning the favor.

I thought of going there for dinner last night and asked a friend who has been. He said all the staff are gay models who don’t have any experience working in a restaurant. Therefore, it took forever to get a drink, and it’s handed with attitude. Not sure how true that account was, but we chose to go to Mao for peking duck instead.

“Gay models?!”
Do you want a drink with that attitude? Hehe.
Still, sometimes attitude is fun, if you’re expecting it. Like the people who owned the sandwich shop on the main strip of my university town — insults served up with good sandwiches — nothing beats that. Almost makes you feel…homey!
