Korean Movies Subtitled in English 2009/09/24-2009/04/27

국가대표 (Take Off) and 해운대 (Haeundae) seem to have dropped off the board, but it may be that Cinus are late putting up their listings… The good news is that possibly the most depressing film of the year, 내사랑 내곁에 (My Love Beside Me), is coming to CGV Yongsan!

My Love Beside Me is on at CGV Yongsan:

Thursday (24th) – 1015, 1245, 1515, 1750, 2030 and 2305
Friday (25th) – 1015, 1250, 1525, 1800, 2035 and 2310
Saturday (26th) – 1015, 1250, 1525, 1800, 2035 and 2310
Sunday (27th) – 1015, 1250, 1525, 1800, 2035 and 2310

I’ll update as and when Cinus get their act together. All listings are correct at time of posting, but may die of a horrible wasting disease…

UPDATE: My Love Beside Me has sprung up all over the place!

I’ve just checked Max Movie dot.com, and the tearjerker appears to be the only movie with English subtitles out now. (It’s Thursday afternoon, by the way.)

For those who would like to learn how to do this for yourself, I offer the following brief tutorial:

    1. You need to be able to read basic Korean.
    2. Go to maxmovie.com
    3. Click on “영화예매” (“movie reservations”) at the top left of the homepage.
    4. On the next screen, you will see four columns. Type “영문자막” (“English subtitles”) into the blank box at the top of the second column, where the magnifying glass icon is.
    5. A listing of movies with English subtitles will appear. Pat yourself on the back.

Or if it seems easier, you can visit the Hub of Sparkle, where Paul kindly goes to the work for you, and puts it here. :)

Thanks Whitey for your info. If you’re comfortable with reading Korean then it can be quite easy to find out film times (My site of choice is naver.com). My intention when creating this series of posts was to offer something that none of the Korean websites offer: a comprehensive English language listing of Korean films subtitled in English.

I’m really happy if people can find this info out for themselves, but this series of posts is for those who want an English language alternative and is also making a point that if you offer English subtitled films then perhaps you should provide information about them in English. If film festivals in Korea can do it then so can Cinus or CGV. I’ll try to keep posting these listings until they start doing it themselves.

Crossmr, thanks for the info on the name! Has anyone seen the film yet? Can they confirm what English title is shown on screen?

No, now that it is in gangnam and myeongdong, I might head over and see it. Yongsan is a little out of my way and I really only go over there if its something extra good.
