Jumping the Asymptote: What’s Been Going On

Long-time readers of Hub of Sparkle know that I cross-post many of my articles at Jumping the Asymptote to HoS. What you may not know is that since August, I’ve actually been living in China. The Great Firewall of China has made it difficult to post both to Jumping the Asymptote and to Hub of Sparkle, so I’ve concentrated on JtA. But now, I’m back in the old US of A with unfettered internet access. So here’s what’s been going on at Jumping the Asymptote, from oldest to newest:

Korean/American Medical Systems – A brief comparison with some insight from a Korean doctor who has been to the USA and seen the American system at work.

What do Taxi Drivers Make? - A micropost on Korean taxi driver salaries.

Korean Military: Rank – The first in a series about my observations while working on a Republic of Korea Air Force Base

Korean Military: Transfers and Command – Second in the series.

Negotiating with Koreans – My observations while negotiating salary with a Korean hagwon in China.

Abortions in Korea – Compares Korean doctors calling elective abortions “necessary for the life of the mother” to common practices in the US healthcare system which I see as similar.

Buddhist Rites of Religious Initiation- As far as I can tell, the first description of the Korean Buddhist rite of sugye (수계) on the English-language Internet, and observations based on my participation in said rite.
